Harvest 2010 trends – Increasing batch capacity of mobile grain driers

Over the last 10 years we have seen a steady increase in the average batch capacity of SeedarGrain Driers in Britain and Ireland. This season has really seen our D 18 T drier cement itself as the most popular machine in our range. This increase in mobile grain drier output has been demanded by farmers as a response to several drivers.

In the past, machines with a 12 tonne batch capacity were by far and away the most popular. This size grain drier matched the combine outputs of the day and were a sound option for grain management. We believe the increased demand for larger batch driers is a result of several factors:

  • the ever increasing output of combines
  • the need to complete drying operations quicker than in the past
  • the wider use of mobile grain driers in co-operative arrangements between several farms, partly influenced by grants such as the Rural Development Programme for England
  • the move towards automation and continuous batch drying
  • the consideration of maximising resale value of the machine in the future

The SeedarD 18 T grain drier has a capacity of 18 tonnes of wet wheat at 20% moisture. It offers a high hourly output while maintaining flexibility for the farmer as it can be easily relocated. With the general trend of demand for increasing grain drier outputs likely to continue it will also maintain a strong resale value in the future. All these factors contribute to a strong return on investment over the lifetime of the machine.

While this is a highly popular option, it is not to say that it suits every situation. This season has also seen the launch of the SeedarSuper Range. Designed specifically for farmers requiring lower output machines whilst maintaining excellent return on investment. Whilst the larger, industrially specified machines with capacities up to 60 tonnes are particularly suited to operating as part of a semi-permanent installation requiring high hourly outputs.

Seedarprovide a wide range of grain driers offering farms of all sizes robust and cost effective grain drying solutions.
